The challenge

Funding information arrived through operational data and reporting files that were difficult to compare consistently. Project and program teams needed a current view of where funding was allocated, how it was being used, which records required attention, and how results changed over time.

The solution

We prepared and standardized the source data, designed a reporting model around funding programs and reporting periods, and built an interactive Power BI dashboard with reusable measures, filters, drilldowns, and scheduled refresh. The result gave stakeholders one dependable place to explore funding activity without rebuilding reports manually.

End-to-end workflow

How the product moves work forward

  1. 01

    Collect source data

Bring funding, program, recipient, period, and status information together from the available operational files and sources.

  2. 02

    Clean and standardize

Use repeatable Power Query transformations to align field names, formats, categories, dates, and incomplete records.

  3. 03

    Model the reporting data

Create relationships and shared dimensions so programs, communities, time periods, allocations, and utilization can be analyzed consistently.

  4. 04

    Calculate the KPIs

Build reusable DAX measures for totals, balances, utilization, trends, status, and period-over-period comparisons.

  5. 05

    Explore and refresh

Present executive summaries and detailed drilldowns in a dashboard that refreshes as the underlying information changes.

Roles and permissions

The right workspace for every participant

Permissions support the real operating model instead of giving every user the same controls.

Program leadership

Reviews the overall funding position, trends, utilization, and areas requiring attention.

Project manager

Uses current program and reporting views to coordinate delivery and resolve data or status gaps.

Funding analyst

Explores detailed records, validates measures, and prepares reporting for stakeholders.

Operational value

  • Replaces repeated manual report preparation with a refreshable dashboard
  • Creates one consistent view of funding activity across programs and reporting periods
  • Makes allocations, utilization, trends, and exceptions easier to investigate
  • Turns raw operational data into decision-ready reporting

Growth opportunities

  • Automated data-quality alerts
  • Row-level access by program or stakeholder group
  • Forecasting and scenario analysis
  • Scheduled report distribution
